Nawalgarh Town is located in Shekhawati region which is North-East part of Rajasthan. The towns in Shekhawati and in particular Nawalgarh are known for their painted Havelis. This region has been recognized as the open art gallery of Rajasthan having largest concentration of frescos in the world. Most of the havelis of the Shekhawati region were constructed in the 18th, 19th and early 20th century. These havelis are noted for their frescos depicting mythological and historical paintings. Thus, Shekhawati region can be said to be the treasure of art with Nawalgarh being the nerve center.
